This is a project which looks at women who had been labelled as disabled as a young child and grew up isolated in a Soviet era in Ukraine. She has looked into the power within gender, freedom of imagination and how females behave. All of these images were made in-between 2015 and 1016, however, she had been involved with them earlier. This has mean that she would have already had a bit of a connection with therm. This has helped to make her shots of the women more powerful and meaningful. In the project she photographed them in the place that they live by using the environment and anything which can represent them.

Picture 1:
I think that this is a good photo because of the use of the leading lines going to the corner of the room. Carolyn Drake has placed the subject in the corner to isolate her. This relates to the story behind the series of photos. The use of the pile of clothes relates to the stereotypical role of women. The fact that the pile has covered her face further links to the idea of isolation and being hidden away.

Picture 2:
I think that this is a good photo because of the idea that they are all joined together. I think that the string can represent this because they are all holding on to it. The use of what looks like a slide will be representative of when they were young, which is what the photo story is based around. The lighting used will have been natural lighting making the story raw.

Picture 3:
I think that this is a good picture because the photographer has used an indoor setting. This could be the place where the woman live. Having the subject pose like this makes them seem more interesting compared to having her just sit there. Once again you are unable to see this women’s face. Across the whole series she has only shown faces in a few pictures.
