In this blog post i will be looking at the ethics of photography in different situations after going through this in a lecture.
This first photograph has been taken by Philip Jones Griffiths. This is from a series that had been taken in Vietnam and all of this work had an influence on the American public. The photo above is of a boy who had been killed by the US. I think that the photographer had taken this as he wanted to show what America had been doing. However, this photo could have started an ethical debate as it is of a young boy who had just been shot. If I had been in this situation I would have wanted to also take the picture as it would have helped to stop this from happening to more children.

This next photograph has been taken by Muhamed Algreb, it was taken in the Syrian civil war of another photographer saving a kid who was involved in an explosion. This photographer had chosen to take this picture as it shows some photographers choose to help people instead of taking pictures. if i was in the situation of the photographer in the photo i would have also chose to save the child. By taking this picture Muhamad has also raised awareness that what is happening in Syria is having an impact on young children.

In this third photo i have moved away from looking at war situations and looking at the ethics with photographing homeless people on the streets. This photo has been taken by Werner Bischof. It was taken in Hungary, Budapest in 1947. People may see taking pictures of the homeless as a problem because they may not have wanted their face shown. However taking these sorts of photos will help to raise awareness of people living in these sorts of situations.

In this photo the photographer, Burt Glinn has decided to show the faces of these protestors. this can be seen as going against the ethical standards as the police would potentially be able to track them down. As a photographer i would choose to show faces of protestors in most cases unless i thought that it is necessary to hide the faces.

IPSO Code of Practice: The public interest
In the public interest section of the IPSO it talks about having to protect them and giving them the right to have freedom of expression. It also talks about how they will need to consider any debate that could be bought up.
