The Inhabited Prairie
Terry Evans is an American photographer. She particularly looks in to how humans engage with the land. Her project The Inhabited Prairie is a selection of aerial photographs taken between 1990 and 1994. The photographer wanted to explore "complexities and contradictions in America’s heartland, and specifically the artistʼs local landscape in her native Kansas".
These are some of the photos taken from her project of landscapes using an aerial point of view. You can see elements of human impact through the photos of the transmissions towers, the road and the house in the field. The angle looking down at the landscape shows a wider view of it all meaning you can see more of human engagement, especially in the photo where all the field has been cut apart from the small segment where the house has been left. These photos relate to my own ideas as i have replicated this style of photos in recent photoshoots where i have taken photos from the top of the hill looking down on the landscape. This again shows the wider shot of the impact of humans on the natural landscapes.
