The Fighter

As part of my research i have watched this short documentary film. What i enjoyed about this video is the range of B-roll video clips they have managed to get from just one room as this holds the attention of the viewer and keeps the interest on the topic that is being talked about, which in this case is boxing. Looking in to videos such as this will help to support my own video due to them both being on the topic of sport. Some strong points about the video "The Fighter" include the set up for the interview where they have used multiple cameras to show different angles while the interviewee is talking. I also thought that the panning over what is happening is a strong point of the video as this helps to limit the repetitiveness of people just boxing. I thought that the use of music still managed to fit in with the video, however, i think that the volume of it was quite loud and could potentially be distracting.

Response: I feel as though my videos aren't as strong as this one due to the repetitiveness of the "same" clips of people just running. To change this i could have included more creative angles of people running or just of the venue itself. However, I feel as though my interview set up was still strong despite not having the multiple angles because i have kept the subjects in focus in simplistic places to keep the focus on the topic that is being talked about and on the sport.

Why I Run

I have looking in to this video on running as i will be focusing on running myself due to this being a sport i understand and enjoy myself. What i liked about this video is the use of creative b roll clips of the people running in the countryside because they have focused in on the little things and used establishing shots of the runners running. However i didn't enjoy this video much. This is because i feel like there was more focus on the music rather than the interview making it hard to keep interest from the viewer.

Response: After watching this video i made sure that i took a number of shots from different distances of the runners including closeups and establishing shots. In my own video i have also kept it so that the interviewee is talking for the whole of the video and i have then matched my b-roll clips to what is being said. For example, in my 60 second video when the subject talks about the drills i have used clips of the drills.

As part of my research i have looked in to the format of short documentary videos made by 60 second docs to get an idea of how people put them together. In these documentaries they have used a good split of interview footage and suitable b-roll clips to match what is being said. Watching several documentaries from this page has helped to support my own work because i can look at a wide range of videos and get an idea of how to format my own videos. I am also able to see what hasn't been done well. For the 60 second documentary videos something i don't like about them is how they have created the subtitles. I will ensure that i don't do this in my own videos. I also don't like the way that the music has been overlayed because i feel as though this can be distracting to the topics which are being talked about:

Response: In my video i have ensured that i haven't used any music as i feel like this is distracting but i however instead have kept the noise of the footsteps of runners in on some of the clips to keep an atmosphere of the sport. I feel as though this is one of the strong points in both the 60 second video and the3 minute video.
