3 – 4 Minute Video

In this video I have focused on the benefits of mental health in sport, to carry on from the first video in assignment 1 I have continued to investigate the athletics society at the university. I have been looking into the topic of mental health in sports as this is something that is trying to be spoken about more in the media and it is a topic of interest to me due to my own experiences and how I benefit through sporting activities. In the video I wanted to try and keep the topic positive to show that the sporting activity is helpful towards mental health.
In this final edit I have created a video focusing on the sporting activity of running. To do this in have included b-roll clips of people running and training, as well as two interviews with different people talking about their own experiences. The strong points of this video include the set up for the interviews as I didn’t have to do much to them other than brighten and straighten them. Due to the people being interviewed talking about the right topics, this has helped to make the interviews more successful. Another strong point will be my use of natural sound breaks. I have used these at the start of the video and in-between the videos to help break up the talking and to introduce the club. I chose to start the vide with a clip of athletics because I didn’t want to start the video with talking right away. As well as clips I have filmed myself, I have also included other types of media such as photos of the club and Instagram story clips. I think that this has helped to strengthen my video because it has helped to show more of what athletics is like.
To improve this video, I think that I could have used more of a variety of clips as the running can be quite repetitive. As well as running clips I could have gone to get clips of the two people being interviewed going about with their daily lives to show that they are still normal people. I could have also used more of a variety of shot types as this will have kept more on an interest on the topic of runners and it would have also helped to look more like the videos that I have researched. To improve my video, I think that I could have looked into different sports. I think that this would have helped to limit the repetition of shots and would have then been more relatable to other people who enjoy participating in sports and. there would have been more of a perspective on the topic of mental health in sports.
The improvements that I have made in response to the 60 to 90 second documentary include using a range of media types including b-roll shots of athletics, photos and Instagram stories. I think that this has helped to provide a more personal touch to the video as it shows the involvement of the people who are speaking. I have also made sure to include the clips of the runners running towards the camera. this has been effective because it has given more perspective on the running and has made it more interesting to just the runners running past the camera.
