AD5808: Modern Landscape Practices

Filters

  • Graduated neutral density filters (GND): allows for variable light transmission when taking a photo.

  • Neutral Density Filters (ND): blocks light that is coming in to the lens without changing the colour of the light.

  • Circular Polarisers (CPL): used to remove or control reflections from surfaces like water, glass, paint, leaves, sky, buildings, streets, etc.

  • Infrared Filters (IR): blocks visible light and only allows infrared light to pass through the camera and lens.

  • Light Pollution Reduction Filters (LPR): Allows the important light and colours to reach the camera sensor, typically used in astrophotography.

  • Physical vs Digital

  • UV Filter

Slow Shutter Speed

Slow shutter speeds are in landscape photography to allow more light in to the sensors without increasing the ISO and decreasing the noise of the photos. However, the slower a shutter speed is the more a tripod will be needed.

People in Landscape

A photographer may choose to have a person in a landscape photography because it may be their "style" of photos, or they may want to add more to photos. Viewers may be able to 'connect' more with a landscape photo if there is a person in the photo rather than if the photo is just of a plain landscape photo.
